Transfer Visas
Those
people who work for international companies and have been asked
to come to work for that company in the United States apply for
an L-1 visa. If a few basic requirements are met, many advantages
exist to using the L category.
This
visa type gives special priority to executives and managers by
allowing them to stay up to 7 years. Employees with specialized
knowledge can stay up to five years. The employer decides how
long an employee can stay in the U.S. with an L-1 visa; this period
of time can reach a maximum of three years. Executives and managers
with L-1 visas are also given special conditions that allow the
employee to adjust status to permanent residence. The L-1 visa
category allows a special one-year initial period of stay for
foreign people opening a new international business located in
the United States.
